Sword Pala used during the Greek revolution
The sword has a steel blade, with a gold-plated artistic inscription. The sheath is made of silver, and has a rich decoration, in which the figure of Odysseus (Ulysses – who holds the bow after his return to Ithaca) and themes from Greek mythology appear. Length 79 cm. End of the 18th century. The Greeks of the revolutionary period paid special attention to their weapons and their decoration. They were able to deprive themselves of clothing and food to save money to pay for the decoration of their weapons. This sword of pala type, shows the strong presence that ancient Greece had among the Greeks, already from the pre-revolutionary period.
