Kolokotronis and Nikitaras
Commemorative medal designed in 1836 by the German artist Konrad Lange (1809-1856). The artist designed 12 bronze medals. They depict snapshots and symbolic representations of the struggle for Independence of 1821, figures of Greek chieftains who led the national liberation struggle, Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias and the first kings, Othon and Amalia. This medal depicts two emblematic chieftains Theodoros Kolokotronis and Nikitaras. The other side shows a Greek fighter who defeats a Turk whom he has thrown from his horse. This medal is the only one out of the 12 which was also released in silver.
