Mantel clock with philhellenic subject

A very elegant and rare mantel clock in porcelain of the early 19th century, from France with a philhellenic subject. The subject presents Giaour’s struggle against Hassan, from Lord Byron’s work “the Giaour”. Thanks to the work of the great romantic Philhellene, public opinion in Europe and in the United States, discovered the heroes of Byron, who in 1821 easily identified with the Greek fighters, and gave impetus to the philhellenic movement.
